A cloze card looks like this: "The capital of [...] is Canberra." You see the sentence with the blank. You recall the missing word ("Australia"). You flip — the answer fills in. Simple.
Cognitive science calls this the generation effect: actively producing the answer beats passively recognizing it. That's why medical schools and language programs have leaned on cloze cards for decades.
How it works in QuickCards
Open the deck editor, click Add card → Cloze, and wrap the words you want to hide in double braces:

Image occlusion: anatomy, maps, diagrams — actually fun
Image occlusion is the secret weapon of medical, geography, and chemistry students. You upload an image (an anatomy diagram, a labeled map, a benzene ring), draw rectangles over the labels you want to hide, and study the result. Each masked region becomes a card on its own.
